WHY WE FAIL AS A TEAM

Last week we at SUCCESS COACH conducted a very successful team building program with one of the country's top corporations.  It was held at Canyon Cove in Nasugbu, Batangas (a very nice place).  We had fun indoors and on the sand as well, but we took note of several reasons why teams fail.
Teams are made up of individuals, with different personalities and identities which eventually adds to the dynamics of it all.  Sometimes teams fail because of a lack of three very important characteristics:

1.)  A common goal
2.)  Interdependence
3.)  The agreement to work together

Should all three are actually met by a team or organization, they fail because of the INDIVIDUALS within it.  There are four things that we lack or refuse to give up that eventually makes us fall apart.  They are:

1.)  Trust - our ability to believe in another that they can contribute to the common goal.

2.)  Communication - if the language spoken (the common vision and strategy to achieve it) differs, members take in their own interpretations as to how to do things.

3.)  Insecurity - especially to those who are in supervisory or managerial positions, they refuse to give away power, responsibility and trust towards others to make them shine.

4.)  Personality - all of us have our own strengths, and our own disorders as well.  An excellent team member knows that, and is willing to sacrifice his own prejudices, assumptions and personal benefit for the best interests of the team.

What do you have? And what do you miss out on?

You'll need to assess these factors to put your team in the right direction should you wish to be an excellent team.
